And how many of them are spam blogs? *A lot*, is my guess.

Don't diss Technorati too much, though - they're about the only organisation even attempting to count the number of blogs worldwide.

Mind you, as the question of 'what constitutes a blog?' becomes ever more complex (e.g. is a last.fm journal a blog? Is a MySpace page a blog?), it may also become ever more irrelevant.

Oh, I see I'm up to my usual trick of commenting on really old posts. Must learn to keep up...

I agree that the results are rather ‘unfulfilling’ but more in a way that the numbers are so high it is really hard to grasp. Many have predicted the demise of PR for some time now with one journalist recently stating that they use blogs for all their news stories and the increasing number of blogs will not help PR’s cause. To be honest though, how many of these are actually blogs? (i.e. regularly updated, archived properly, etc) and how many will actually be read by more than the author and their two friends?

I, too, find Technorati slighty frustrating...it often produces unrelated results. I also think that saying the Blogosphere is 50 million strong is the wrong tactic to take - how many of these blogs are active i.e. how many of their owners post regularly? The answer will probably be less impressive.
